OUR TRUE PASSION

Recently I was out with two of my best friends and when dinner was over and we were having coffee, I asked a simple, random question. “What was your favorite subject at school?” One friend replied without hesitation,”drawing.” My other friend replied almost identically…”art.” I smiled, because here I was sitting with two of the most creative people in my life, and they both had followed their lifelong passion. One had studied architecture and works in the creative field and the other have had many careers…all in the creative arena, including designing and making clothes. They both cannot imagine doing anything else than what they do.

My answer to that question was…”English and also art.” I always loved books and discovered the magic of reading, words, and books at a very young age. I also loved sketching and painting. Unlike my two good friends, I on the other hand, at some point during the course of my life, had all but abandoned my passions. I pursued other more practical means to make a living. None of those routes have ever really fulfilled me professionally. I think one of the reasons I decided to start this blog was because as I got older, I felt more and more I wanted (and needed) to channel some of my childhood passion into some sort of creative expression. You always hear – ‘do what you love and it will never feel like work.’ Sometimes that is easier said than done when you are trying to find your way in this world, as an independent person. Nevertheless; if you can follow your true passion and stay on course, I do believe it will lead you on the path to happiness and fulfillment. If you find something that you truly love to do, work hard, and believe in yourself,Ā  you will find your way. Doing something that you have a passion for, enables you to thrive and live a more purposeful life. Simply put….it brings you joy and who doesn’t want that?

Growing up in my household, the emphasis was placed on academics. Doing well at school and following the traditional career paths, was viewed as the surest route to a successful future. Mostly that is true, and is still the case nowadays in many families. Fortunately though, for younger people, today there are also many other career avenues to pursue. I think parents are now more open to the creative arts, if a youngster is so inclined. I believe doing what you love fuels your soul and energizes you in many ways. So-called traditional jobs are not for everyone. So for the younger generation who are now forging their path in life; discover your passion, immerse yourself, and follow your dreams. That passion could well be accounting, or maybe you have that creative bug….painting, writing, or even the performing arts. Or, you might even be a great athlete. The possibilities are endless. I believe we all have something we are uniquely good at. Follow your dreams, whatever they may be.
