My father taught me the game of Solitaire as a child. My siblings and I were also taught other card and board games. Solitaire was one of my favorites. However, I only played sporadically in my adult years. Recently, I revisited the game (free version) on my mobile device and now play whenever I wish to pass some free time, such as…. on a long train commute. I fell in love with it all over again. I play classic Solitaire. Lately, it dawned on me that there is some correlation between life and Solitaire. They both require perseverance, patience, (the game is actually sometimes called ‘Patience’) practice, concentration, and attention to every detail. A variety of ‘cards’, and a good hand to start with, is very beneficial. The absence of the latter can sometimes be the difference between winning or losing.

As in life, you need to have patience and perseverance when all seems lost in the game. Just as you think you want to quit, an Ace can pop up suddenly and the game turns around. You have to concentrate and give your full attention, or you may miss an opportunity that sometimes can seem hidden. Or, you may make a wrong move and eventually lose the game. Similar to life, you have to be rested and remain alert in order to take advantage of any opportunity that may arise. You can’t hurry the game along or you may falter. Every move is important, regardless of how small it may seem at the time. Like anything else, the more you practise, the better you become. As in life, you need a variety of cards to win the game. Hearts, Spades, Clubs and Diamonds. All 52 cards have to come together in order to clear the deck. A little trivia; there are 52 cards in a deck, just as there are 52 weeks in a year. In the game of Solitaire, a good hand to start is always a welcome sight. Nonetheless, as in life…sometimes what starts out as a bad hand, can sometimes be turned around if we persist and don’t give up.
I thank everyone who has taken the time to visit my little blog. Best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous new year. Hoping that 2019 comes up Aces for us all. If we each spread kindness, love and happiness in our corner of the universe, collectively we can make the world a better place.
