I feel sometimes we play a waiting game in life. We sit around and we wish and hope that the thing we think is missing from our life will come to fruition sooner. At times we spend an inordinate amount of time worrying about things that are beyond our control. We focus on the one thing that we think is missing…the thing that we feel will make us completely happy. Which is somewhat impossible in my opinion. I think happiness is an ever-evolving journey. By looking at the glass half-empty, we can miss so much of the other wonderful things right before our eyes.

That saying….“good things happen when you least expect it,” is so true. When we let go of our impatience and yearning, sometimes great things happen. We feel a sense of freedom. We can regain some of that childhood joy of just living in the present. I think part of it is; when we are waiting for something to change or take shape, we put so much energy into it evolving, that it can sometimes seem like an eternity. We develop tunnel vision. But, when we release all that energy and just carry on with our lives, things happen out of the blue. Example; you may meet a new love….if that is what you want. Or get a great job or promotion that you have been yearning for. One of the great paradox of life seems to be….things happen when you stop thinking about it and dare I say, obsessing over it.

Having said the above, it doesn’t mean, you just sit around and do nothing to achieve what you want. Au contraire, you continue doing your best….you just don’t fixate on that one (or more) element you feel is missing from your life. You live with gratitude for what you do have. Then, all that stress of anticipation and wanting more is removed from your day-to-day life. You let things unfold organically. Some advice my father gave to me many years ago, when I was going through a transition in my life. He said….“just keep busy, do anything…it doesn’t have to be something you will do forever. But, just keep moving.” Sadly, I did not always take that good advice. There are times when I sat around and moped about whatever was causing me angst or unhappiness. Precious time was wasted in those moments. So, stop focusing on the thing you think is missing, (that elusive, magical, puzzle piece) and instead, engross yourself into every aspect of your life…live, be joyful. One day, you may be surprised that seemingly without much thought, great things can come your way.
