Valley Of Discontent

Been visiting the valley of discontent

The residents rarely smile

Or are seldom happy

Days of mirth are few

I was invited in, but not accepted

My attempts to render assistance,

often denied

The inhabitants enjoy spending their time,

rolling around in self imposed misery

Living in a land of fantasy

They live for the in-between days

The days where all seem peaceful

The quiet before the storm

A storm that usually came in with

raging intensity

They knew the way out, but was resolute

in their denial

They preferred to pass blame

To dwell on days past, and the unchangeable

To ride on a train going nowhere

I decided to depart the valley of misery

The land where time stood still

I wanted to feel the sun on my shoulders

once more, to hear peals of genuine laughter

Had to learn how to live again
