Sometimes what we think we want, is not what we need. At least, not at that given moment. Maybe our expectations of what we think will make us happy… is too high. Or perhaps, improbable to attain presently. I had to delve into this concept when faced with a recent matter. It involved making a very difficult decision.
I was offered an opportunity which in years past or even quite recent times, I felt would solve all my problems. The more I went through the process, the more I realized….I think that ship may have sailed for me. In the end, I had to accept that this was not something that was possible at this present moment. It just was not the right timing in my life. As magical as it seemed…magic is not real.
When you are faced with such a dilemma, it forces you to really look into your heart and whether your expectations, and what really makes you happy is achievable. So, quiet your mind and look into your soul. You have to be true to yourself and listen to your gut. Yes, that thing called intuition is very powerful. I think when you try to stifle or ignore it, you can go down roads that leads to despair. When making your decision, you have to decide – how much you are willing to give up to get what you think you want. You alone can decide what you can live with.

When faced with a dilemma of any kind, be brutally honest with yourself. Remember, only you truly knows what you are going through. Only you will have to deal with any ramifications from making a wrong decision. No loved one, no friend, will carry that burden for you. So, listen to your gut. To quote the late, great Kenny Roger’s lyrics from The Gambler:
“You got to know when to hold ’em
Know when to fold ’em
Know when to walk away”
